The Sarnia-Lambton Coordinating Committee on Violence Against Women recognizes the importance of a systems perspective in establishing an integrated response to violence against women. The committee believes that we all have a responsibility to work toward the elimination of violence. This responsibility extends beyond the clients we serve, to a traditionally patriarchal society and its attitudes towards women. We must work toward changing socialization patterns and attitudes that underlie and perpetuate violence against women. Our commitment to educate, advocate and coordinate service will result in a practical application of “zero tolerance” to violence.
The membership shall be composed of service providers and those who are representative of the Sarnia-Lambton community and who are committed to the prevention of violence against women and children. Membership shall consist of persons representing the criminal justice system, health, clergy, education and social service organizations. It is expected that members participate on sub-committees so that we enhance the working of the committee. Voluntary membership fees may be requested periodically to allow committee objectives and work to proceed.
